The E. Howard Watch Company, founded in 1858 by Edward Howard in Roxbury, Massachusetts, was one of America’s premier watchmakers, known for its high-quality, precision-engineered timepieces. Unlike mass-produced watches from companies like Waltham and Elgin, Howard focused on hand-assembled, individually numbered pocket watches featuring advanced movement designs and superior craftsmanship. In 1902, the company was acquired by Keystone Watch Case Company, which continued producing watches under the E. Howard & Co. name, often casing Swiss movements. However, as demand for expensive American-made mechanical watches declined, the brand ceased production in the 1930s.
Today, E. Howard watches remain highly collectible, valued for their innovation, exceptional quality, and significant role in shaping American horology.
