The Legacy of Gruen: A History of Precision, Style and Innovation

Gruen watches are high-quality material timepieces that have a long, rich history. Known as the first James Bond watch, the Gruen Precision 510; they produced some fascinating watches for their time eventually reaching the largest watch company in the United States, in total sales.

Gruen Watch Company was founded, in 1894, by Ditrich Grün, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The brand was formerly one of the largest watch manufacturers in the United States. Gruen was one of the first American companies to offer basic movements, produced in Switzerland, in a wide variety of cases. Their ’21’ series of wristwatches were entirely made in the United States. After WWII, many US watch companies lost market share to the Swiss, including Gruen, which eventually led to their demise, halting operations in 1958.
