Jules Jürgensen, a distinguished watchmaking company, was founded in 1773 by Jürgen Jürgensen in Copenhagen, Denmark, initially operating as Larpent & Jürgensen. Upon Jürgen’s death in 1811, his son Urban Jürgensen, who had apprenticed under renowned watchmakers in Switzerland and France, took over the business, enhancing its reputation for precision and quality. Urban’s sons, Jules and Louis, continued the legacy, with Jules establishing a branch in Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1838, marking the brand’s expansion into Swiss watchmaking. The company remained family-owned until 1912, after which it underwent several ownership changes, including a sale to an American firm in 1936. Despite these transitions, the brand persisted, with production continuing in Switzerland until 1957. In 1974, U.S. watch distributor Mort Clayman acquired the company, shifting production to incorporate Japanese movements.
The brand’s rights were eventually acquired in 2011 by Dr. Helmut Crott, aligning it with the Urban Jürgensen brand, thereby preserving its historical significance in horology.
